The Arena di Verona Festival is a summer festival of opera, located in the city of Verona Italy. The first operas were performed in 1913 in celebration of the centenary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi and were produced by the tenor Giovanni Zenatello and the theatre impresario Ottone Rovato. Opera performances are given in Arena di Verona, an ancient Roman amphitheatre, which was capable of holding 30,000 spectators. Performances traditionally begin at dusk and spectactors on the stone seats of the arena create small candles on this mobile phones to simulte the "mocoleto", as darkness falls and the performances begin. Turandot is Giacomo Puccini’s last, unfinished opera and is perhaps his most musically adventurous. It features within the opera’s 3rd act, one of the most famous arias of all time, “Nessun Dorma.”.

From June 30th 2018 at 9pm, Turandot will be staged under the skilful direction of Franco Zeffirelli. The rest of the dates are 5th July, 13th July, 18th July and 26th July.
